What exactly is a Flash/SWF Decompiler?
Flash Decompilers are tools which "open" up the properties of the SWF and make them accessible to all. Because the SWF format is open by design, these tools are able to view the ActionScript, Frames, Movie Clips and Images that make up a Flash SWF Movie. Of all these items, the ActionScript code is the most valuable and main reason why people use Flash Decompilers. With access to a SWF movies ActionScript code, somebody can easily copy and paste it into their own movie and pass it off as their own creation. Furthermore, sensitive data such as Passwords, Server Details may be contained within the ActionScript which can also be easily read back.
Flash Decompilers are wide spread and there are many different versions available. Whilst these tools can also have a positive use (for example, retrieving code from a SWF if you lose the FLA Source File) in most cases, they are used to "peek" at other developers SWF files and the code they have used.
